Preparing to celebrate his 83rd birthday on September 16th, B.B. King continues to be light on his feet, singing and playing the blues with relentless passion. The Mississippi native, born Riley B. King, has defined the blues for a worldwide audience. King began recording in the 1940’s and has released over 50 albums, many which are classics. One of the most influential guitarists in our time, B.B. King has had an impact on both modern blues and rock and roll. Relatively unknown to most until the late 1960’s, King broke through the barriers of race and national boundaries when he recorded an adaptation of the Roy Hawkin’s song, “The Thrill is Gone”. With his famous trademark guitar, Lucille, B.B. King is constantly on the road performing. He has traveled all over the world entertaining millions. In addition to his musical accomplishments, King has received numerous honors, including seven Grammy Awards, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Blues Hall of Fame.
